FOUR FRIENDS PLAY TRIBUTE TO LOST GIRL BY RUNNING IN THE NEW YORK MARATHON
|
The Advertiser - 13 August 2012
AMANDA Mantville will be stepping into the biggest challenge of her life in November when she takes on the New York Marathon. Along with three friends, she will run the 42.2km journey in honour of 10-year-old Sabrina Mangos, who was killed in a car crash while her family were holidaying in New York in August last year.Mrs Mantville, 37, never knew Sabrina, but met the girl's mother, Valerie Mangos, by chance through work. The family's tragedy would not escape her mind. "I just kept thinking about it," she said. "Being a mother who cannot fathom the pain this family is going through, I knew I needed to do something to help. "The family set up the Sabrina Mangos Foundation to allow the quartet of runners to raise money for the Women's and Children's Hospital Foundation. Mrs Mangos said she was touched the women would be running the marathon on November 4 for her daughter. "If she was here, Sabrina would truly be honoured," Mrs Mangos said. Mrs Mantville and friends Lyndi Gepp, 38, Sarah Fraser, 31, and Lee Patterson, 46, hope to raise $10,000. "Sabrina's story has touched home for all of us because we all have children and we just can't imagine what the Mangos family is going through," Ms Gepp said. "And, at different times, we've all been to the Women's and Children's Hospital with our children. "The women will host a fundraising event at Mitcham Community Hall on August 24, 2011. |
